How beautiful to tie up gladioli so as not to fall?

Content

Novice gardeners are often worried about how to tie up gladioli so that the flowers do not fall on the ground and look beautiful at the same time. With most varieties, problems do not arise if a suitable planting site is chosen (the culture needs a lot of sunlight - in the shade, the stems are formed weak and can fall even before the peduncle appears). However, when growing tall gladioli, one cannot do without supporting structures. They can be individual or common - both varieties can be made independently.

Gladioli tied to stakes

Using an individual support

Gladiolus growing separately on a flower bed can be conveniently tied to an individual support, which can be a wooden peg, plastic or metal rod.

To make the support structure invisible, it is better to use sticks and rods of a small diameter, and paint them dark green before installing.

Garter of gladioli

The twine that will be used for the garter must also be of a suitable shade so as not to be conspicuous. A support 1.5 m high is driven into the ground 40–50 cm for maximum stability. A gladiolus tied in this way is not afraid of either wind or rain.

You can plant a single plant in a metal bucket with a knocked out bottom, painted in accordance with the imagination of the owner of the site.

Supports for gladioli

Designs for a large number of colors

Most often, flower growers plant several varieties of gladiolus at once, fascinated by the majestic beauty of this flower. In this case, the installation of a support peg near each plant will be quite laborious.

It is worth choosing an option corresponding to the number and arrangement of flowers on the site:

  • To prevent gladioli growing in a group (bouquet) planting from falling, you can build a decorative fence around them. It can be a homemade circular fence or a picket fence hammered in a circle, fastened with a hoop. The composition will look nice and neat.
  • For a large number of flowers planted in one row, the method of tying to a horizontal trellis is often used. On the sides of the flower beds, metal poles are dug into the ground, between which several rows of wire are stretched. The plants are then tied to a wire structure with green twine. Such a garter does not stand out much, it is almost completely covered by the leaves of gladioli.
  • Mesh as a support for gladioli

  • You can correctly tie tall gladioli using a green coarse mesh (with 10x10 cm cells). It is pulled in a horizontal plane at the desired height, fixing the flower beds around the perimeter on support posts or pegs. Establish support when gladioli grow up a little. The stems only need to be slightly guided during growth so that they fall into the cells. The design looks light and graceful while holding the flowers securely.

Making a support for gladioli is not difficult at all. This is a creative and fun process, the result of which will give the garden landscape individuality and original flavor.
